Welcome to BCCW

Established in 14, September1957, the then East Pakistan Council for Child Welfare , now renamed as Bangladesh Council for Child Welfare – BCCW is the pioneering development organization in the field of child welfare in the country. It's get registration from Social Welfare Department of East Pakistan as a National Organization. BCCW is a voluntary, non-profit, non-political and development organization committed to the welfare of the children in general and the children with disability ( CWD ) in particular. It is an apex body or network of 40 national and regional children organizations of the country. Any contribution/donation for BCCW has made “ Tax Free” by the Government of Bangladesh. BCCW launched by some eminent personalities in the area of social welfare, education, culture and child development in the then Pakistan period. It was toughest tasks to do some on the development-oriented activities in the said colonial era. But BCCW was completed many outstanding programs. It's worth mentioning that BCCW has been initiated a lot of activities related to child development from its inception from the Pakistani regime. It was a very challenging job to make a common platform for the NGO's were activating on the child development activities. No doubt, formation of BCCW was a pioneering work in the field of building an apex body in that period. From very earlier BCCW initiated a lot of on child rights and welfare issues. Among the activities BCCW prioritized the action on children disability from beginning. BCCW was started a Disabled hospital at Dhaka for the children in a very small space but that was a milestone. Personal and some organizational donation could do the biggest tasks which never done. From very beginnings BCCW didn't want any financial support from donors. But it is reality in the country that without support from donors any initiatives related to human well being not to be sustained at all. So, after some time BCCW was searching some friend to help BCCW to reach peak of success in the field of disability welfare. As a result Newzealand Government was granted financial assistance to build up a good physical infrastructure of crippled Hospital cum office accommodation for BCCW in mid eighties. Now BCCW is a glorious owner of a six storied and a two storied building in heart of the Dhaka City . BCCW have been started a well equipped 50 bedded Disabled children hospital in own place. After that BCCW could not get any big donation to extend or develop treatment for ling time. In 1998 BCCW have received a project grant from Action Aid Bangladesh , an UK based international donor agency for Community Based Rehabilitation -CBR Project at Dhaka urban area initially for one year. After successful completion of the period this support has been extended for more 4 years. So, it could be undoubtedly say that BCCW has a well reputation on CBR concept and to do well for the disabled.
